INTRODUCTION Welcome to Penang or Pulau Pinang in Malay, founded by Captain Francis Light in 1786. The word 'Pulau' meaning an island and 'Pinang' a betel nut palm tree which was found on the whole island then. Penang consists of an island (Penang Island) and a strip of land on the north west of peninsular Malaysia. (Butterworth) joined by one of the longest bridge in the world built in 1985-The Penang Bridge.
