INTRODUCTION

Welcome to Penang or Pulau Pinang in Malay, founded by Captain Francis Light in 1786. The word 'Pulau' meaning an island and 'Pinang' a betel nut palm tree which  was found on the whole island then. Penang consists of an island (Penang Island) and a strip of land on the north west of peninsular Malaysia. (Butterworth) joined by one of the longest bridge in the world built in 1985-The Penang Bridge.

Visitors arriving from the mainland can take a ride in one of the ferries plying the Penang channel. It’s a  20-minute ride across.

Those traveling to Penang by air can land at the Bayan Lepas international airport in Bayan Lepas on the south of the island. Also widely known as the Pearl of the Orient. Penang is one of Asia's most famous islands with its natural beauty and exotic heritage. Modern skyscrapers and pre-war buildings line side by side in it's capital Georgetown. You can find places of worship of different races within a few meters apart. Apart from all these wonderful places, Penang has produced a gourmet's selection of one of the finest foods in the region.
